Cycling in Sussex – experience this beautiful county
Cycling is a great way to experience and explore East Sussex. There are cycling festivals, off roads, competitive races and so many great rides for just taking in the countryside at whatever energy levels you like.
Eastbourne Cycling Festival is taking place Saturday, Sunday 3rd/4th June 2017, it includes a ‘Duathlon’ (run, bike and run) and the ‘Sportive’ long distance challenge (48miles). Facebook page here
Cycling in Sussex is famously enjoyed on the South Down’s Way. This is a classic route stretching for 90 miles between Eastbourne and Winchester, taking in picturesque villages and stunning scenery. It’s a roller coaster of a ride, have a look here at the elevation and map of the South Downs cycle trail
You don’t have to cycle the whole trail to enjoy the South Downs , there are lots of routes including the Seven Sisters Park, part of the national cycle network , enjoythe spectacular meanders of the Cuckmere River down to the sea..
Cyclists are especially welcome at Gyves House bed and breakfast; we have secure, covered bike storage in our private courtyard and can offer washing and drying of any colourful lycra kit, as well as flexible breakfast arrangements – including breakfast-in- a- bag. We also can help with local bike hire or local bike repairs. These offers are available with pre-arrangement, so we would need to be notified when you make a reservation.
We are surrounded by pubs and restaurants, so you won’t be far away from an evening drink or meal after your cycles.
