East Dean Tiger Inn - Eastbourne b&b favourite

We are  in our third season in Gyves House; these are some of the local places and things we have discovered and taking to… ..our current Eastbourne favourites anyway.

The village of East Dean with its lovely green and the Tiger Pub, sitting right on it, is a quintessentially English scene, it’s easy to see why Sherlock Holmes was retired here by his author. You can get here by bus or car, and take walks over the fields down to the Birling Gap and the Coastal Trail.

The Devonshire Park Theatre is a little beauty,  considered one of the best examples of a small Victorian theatre in the country, perfect for many shows and especially the Christmas pantomime.

South Street has several nice pubs, the Dolphin is quite traditional with good food and a well looked after pint – there’s a  Tuesday night Curry Night here – delicious and very good value.

Right by Gyves House bed and and breakfast is The Victoria, owned by Harvey’s Brewery of Lewes and as you would expect serves a lovely pint .. in a nice traditional community pub atmosphere.

Playing golf with fabulous views over the Downs, the sea and the town is a real pleasure – Eastbourne Downs golf club is perfect for that.

Love to just go walking along the parade down the beach, past fishing boats, the Victorian pier, a lovely bandstand, it’s a great English seaside experience – choose ice creams, fish and chips, café lattes along the way or even salmon fishcakes and a glass of beer at the Belgian cafe.

Are we eating and drinking too much?

Many beautiful spots to walk the calories off though-stepping up onto the South Downs at Holywell, bracing walks alongside Beachy Head, trekking down to Jevington from Butt’s Brow high above Eastbourne (access from Willingdon), the Friston Forest paths- just great countryside all around.

We are still discovering just how diverse is the town of Eastbourne and county of East Sussex -we invite you to come and enjoy it for a while at Gyves House bed and breakfast.
