The Eastbourne Tennis at Devonshire Park is Eastbourne’s most famous event but it’s not alone. Eastbourne is a great sporting place, whether you are a spectator or a participant! Our guests at Gyves House bed and breakfast are proving to be both…the most impressive being the 3 guys who cycled the whole of the South Downs Trail on one day…Winchester to Eastbourne (over 100 miles).

Fortunately they could safely lock up their bikes and go enjoy a nice Thai meal at Seeracha right at the end of our road and have a great night’s sleep at Gyves House guest house
Here are just some sporting highlights for Eastbourne.

Tennis: The immaculate grass courts at Devonshire Park in Eastbourne see the AEGON International tennis tournament take place every June , used by the elite players (both men and women) as preparation for Wimbledon Championships. It’s a great English summer occasion.

If you are a player, you can book courts or lessons here all year round.

Running in Eastbourne : every day-all day runners are exercising along the seafront  ( there’s a 6 mile parade from Holywell to Sovereign Harbour) and all over the South Downs, Coastal paths and in the Forests .
And if you’d like to experience this in organised events, why not  …
- The annual Coastal Trail Series -  four distances available, starting and finishing at beautiful Birling Gap.. 10k, Half Marathon, Marathon and Ultra. Takes place in March each year.

- The Beachy Head Marathon Saturday October 29th 2016

Of course, making the most of the special location of the South Coast also means watersports

- Wind surfing, sailing, kite surfing, stand up paddle, kayaking, powerboating

Try the Spray Water Sports Centre on the beach just a short walk from Gyves House bed and breakfast for lessons

Or just take yourself on a RIB boat trip from the Sovereign Harbour with Sussex Voyages … choose an adventure ride or an hour’s more scenic trip to Beachy Head

Then there’s …Cycling on the roads, in the forests, on the trails ..it deserves a post of its own…likewise Golf!
