Eastbourne theatres, music, art, cinema … this town has them all.  And all in walking distance of Gyves House bed and breakfast.

There are four main Eastbourne theatres, each has its own character and style, from the purpose built Congress Theatre to the Victorian Devonshire Park Theatre (built in 1884, one of best examples of a small Victorian theatre in the country).

Music is a feature at the Eastbourne theatres (including regular visits from the London Philharmonic Orchestra but Eastbourne also has it’s own Bandstand on the seafront hosting a diverse range of bands and shows throughout the year from military bands  to classical to opera and the very popular traditional summer series of tribute bands…. what’s  on in 2017 at the Bandstand. Tribute bands this year include Killers, the Supremes, Status Quo, Rolling Stones, Bob Marley….

For Art, the exceptional ‘Towner’ is the contemporary art museum for South East England. Admission is free. Check out the 2017 exhibitions

If you want to catch the latest movie releases Eastbourne has two cinemas…the Curzon in the middle of town and the Cineworld multiplex at Sovereign Harbour Retail Park.

Alternative theatre and arts venues include Eastbourne’s Underground Theatre

And upstairs at The Lamb Inn, The Lamb Theatre

The annual festival at Glyndebourne  is just 30 minutes away by car or train. For Glyndebourne take the train to Lewes direct from Eastbourne. All Glyndebourne performances finish in time for audiences to return to Eastbourne by train. There is a free coach during the Festival that runs to and from Lewes Train Station. Coach tickets must be booked at least 24 hours in advance of a performance.
